My only experience with "agyria" was in the emergency room. A teenage boy without symptoms but with skin all a-blue was admitted. While nurses and doctor quizzed he and his hysterical mother, I skin prepped the boy's wrist for an arterial blood gas. Without drawing the blood, I quietly presented the now-blue skin prep pads to the physician. The boy was soon discharged, without treatment, in good health. He had apparently slept in the buff between brand-new, unwashed, blue-dyed sheets.
